Dorstenia bahiensis ‘Mattress Button plant’: It’s not a succulent, but I really love this plant!
In this video we gather seeds, harvest a few directly, sow them, and watch them germinate.
From catching the seeds to making them pop out of the oddity of a flower, watching new leaves come in, it’s really quite an active plant.
The good news is Dorstenia bahiensis doesn’t require bright light so it won’t compete with your succulents for sunny locations. It isn’t really happy in high heat and can do quite well indoors somewhat near a bright window.
But it’s a thirsty, thirsty plant and will quickly demonstrate its need for H2O by slumping and wilting, but it perks up quickly after a drink.
If you can get your hands on these non-succulent types of Dorstenias, go for it! They’re really enjoyable and a pleasure to grow.
