This is a bonus post to show and tell the backstory to the garden featured in my latest video ‘How to Build a Cacti and Succulent Garden.‘
We moved to our new house in the summer of 2016. Not long after I settled in, I was given some big prickly pear pads from a lovely local Houstonian who has an amazing xeriscaped front yard. Seeing her accomplishment flourish inspired me to try my hand at a much smaller-scaled cacti garden.

Video Demo: Starting cacti from seeds
Growing cacti from seed is easy and rewarding! It takes patience and a few guidelines to start cactus seeds.
Video: How to Harvest Seeds from Cactus Fruit
This is a macro video demonstrating how to remove the fruit and harvest the seeds from a cactus (Species is Mammillaria Haageana). This variety does bear edible fruit known as Chilitos, and I did taste it afterwards! A bit underripe, sour, no distinct flavors just yet..but not unpleasant!
