Watch me rescue and propagate one of my favorite plants— a Kalanchoe tubiflora ‘Chandelier Plant,’ one of the Mother of Thousands. It is a fast grower and gets so tall it can’t support its own weight. (We’ve been through this before…) It offsets from plantlets along the leaf-tips as pictured in the intro image.

The Many Mother of Thousands
You’ve probably heard the term ‘Mother of Thousands’ (or ‘Millions’) used for several plants by now. It’s a common name given to the varieties of Kalanchoe/Bryophyllum that reproduce by plantlets called bulbils that form along the leaf margins. Bryophyllum is another genus given to this type of plant, but it most commonly still referred to as Kalanchoe. Some botanists group Bryophyllum with Kalanchoe.

Well, we’re smack dab in the middle of summer and I know a lot of you are really feeling the burn along with me. So are our succulents. When I first started working with succulents, I assumed they were all pretty much impervious to the heat, but it didn’t take long to realize that wasn’t the case. So, if you’re like me and live somewhere that “enjoys” summer temperatures well into the 90s (and beyond) for much of the season, there are a few things you should know to help keep your plants alive and happy through the hottest months of the year.
