Will they cross? Pollination Attempt: Astrophytums myriostigma and asterias

The answer… yes! In this video I show you how I cross-pollinated two Astrophytums I had in flower at the same time. But since they’re different species, I wasn’t sure what the results would be. It didn’t take long before the A. myriostigma ‘Bishop’s Cap’ produced a fruit and split open.

We’ll harvest the seeds, plant them, and check on them daily until we see germination. I use sterilized soil and will keep the seedlings in a sealed ziplock bag for several months. Propagation by seed can be slow, but it can also happen quite quickly!
